Hurricanes and Economic Bad News

Florida’s legislature has long benefited from the cogent analysis of Amy Baker and her colleagues serving in the Office of Economic and Demographic Research. She masterfully informs lawmakers often delivering bad news. Her recent narrative forecasts three years of budget shortfalls, largely due to “structural imbalance.”
This Miami Herald article shines a light on Florida’s looming challenge. Quote of the piece: “Baker also seized the opportunity to puncture a popular myth that hurricanes are actually a boon to Florida’s economy.” Anybody heard of the broken window fallacy? Amy Baker nails it (again).
